What does your company do for employee celebrations?

Question by Amanda L: What does your company do for employee celebrations?
We usually do an annual picnic during work hours, so it’s employees only. When we have done a holiday party in December in the evening, turnout has been low. We’d like to try to do something different, but are at a loss as to other ideas. So tell me, if your company is 100-300 people, what do they do for employee celebrations? This would take place in May.

Company wide, we do pretty much the same – We have an annual picnic (employees only), and a holiday party in december.

Once a year, we’ll do stuff for “Relay for life”, which is a cancer charity, and people can show up and do things if they want. We’ll hold races, cook offs, etc. But not everyone participates.

Various departments also have their own things – celebrating everyones birthday once per month, or taking the whole team out for dinner. Once we gave everyone $ 100 dollars, with the stipulation that they had to do something “fun” with it.
